Check Your Boobies is Dedicated to Early Detection and Prevention of Breast Cancer

Check Your Boobies’ mission is to have every woman know her breasts. We created this non-profit organization to educate women about breast health in a frank, fun, and fear-free manner. We are dedicated to the prevention and early detection of Breast Cancer.

In the past few years we have witnessed heightened Breast Cancer awareness. But awareness hasn’t led to action. When asked, 8 out of 10 women said they don’t perform breast self-exams regularly. They don’t know how to check their boobies properly. They are not in tune with normal monthly changes in their breasts. They are afraid. They are scared they might actually find something, so they just don’t do it.

According to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, women must check their breasts frequently enough to note changes in them. Checking them at the same time every month gives women a baseline from which they can confidently note significant changes in their breast tissue and address them with their doctor as early as possible. Breast self-exams are important for younger women under 40 since mammograms are not widely available for that age group and they may not be accurate due to the density of their breasts.

Check Your Boobies hopes to change the way breast health information is delivered. Breast health education needs to happen more than once a year in a doctor’s office. The goal of Check Your Boobies is to allow women to see their breasts as breasts only. We want to help them know their body, know their breasts and demystify the breast so that they are not afraid or embarrassed to touch them and talk about them, and take action if they need to.

Through Check Your Boobies Parties, we provide women with a fun, engaging and non-threatening way to learn about breast health. Our Check Your Boobies parties are similar to many other women’s gatherings including book clubs, Tupperware parties, purse parties, or religious gatherings. Our breast health professionals provide breast health education including information on diet and exercise and their respective roles in breast cancer prevention. We teach women how to do breast exams properly. In a familiar, comfortable environment, with their girlfriends, we give women all the information they need to become familiar with their breasts and teach them to check their boobies frequently enough so that they can note any changes. The most important thing is for every woman to be familiar with her breasts and note any changes that are significant.

We also provide a free online email reminder which provides women with a monthly reminder to help them remember to check their boobies.

FACT: Based on the American Cancer Society, 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. And early detection makes a HUGE difference in survival. According to the American Society of Clinical Oncology, up to 97% of women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer will survive 5 years after diagnosis. Increasing numbers of young women are being diagnosed at an earlier age. It is vital that every woman be familiar with her breasts.
